Ultimate Watchlist 24’
Join me on a cinematic adventure as we explore a carefully curated list of must-watch movies in 2024 that cater to various tastes and preferences.
Horror & Thriller:
"Abigail" (2024), directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. The plot revolves around a group of kidnappers who kidnap and must look after the daughter of a powerful character until Abigail exposes her real nature as a vampire child and hunts them out one by one.
Drama:
"Juliet" (2024), directed by James Mangold. Julie Jacobs is about an American who journeys to Siena in quest of her Italian ancestors and perhaps an inheritance, only to learn she is descended from 14th-century Giulietta Tomei, whose love for Romeo overcame their bickering families and inspired Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
Action:
A remake of the 1996 film "Twister," which followed a couple of storm chasers who risk their lives to test an experimental weather alarm system, directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
The Nightingale:
The lives of two sisters living in France are shattered as World War II begins. The film, inspired by the novel "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah, is directed by Mélanie Laurent. "The Nightingale" is more of a dark historical thriller than a horror movie.
Mean Girls:
Directed by Arturo Perez Jr., Samantha Jayne, and Tina Fey, who is the writer of both the original film and this adaptation, introduces a new perspective. This iteration is based on the stage musical "Mean Girls," which, in turn, was derived from the original movie. Angourie Rice portrays the newcomer Cady Heron, with Reneé Rapp assuming the character of Regina George, the leading Mean Girl.
Challengers:
Zendaya takes center stage in Luca Guadagnino's newest film, which revolves around the dynamics among a tennis coach (played by Zendaya), her struggling husband, a former champion (portrayed by Mike Faist), and his one-time best friend (depicted by Josh O’Connor), who also happens to be her former boyfriend.
So, grab your popcorn, settle into your favorite spot, and let the magic of movies unfold before you.
