While media and pop culture have dubbed 'florals' as cliché or an obvious design choice in the seasonal transition from Winter to Spring, this style is deeply rooted in the renewal of the seasons and a must-have for your closet refresh, at least according to the editorials. Florals, which pop out in nature every year, are an aspect that will not be going away. However, the obsession with florals is not isolated to media and pop culture. The fashion industry themselves are glued to this concept. Without fault, every Spring article flourishes the editorial landscape with this need to promote the essence of femininity into your closets and street style. The question is, why florals? What makes the annual resurgence permissible while other trends meet the chopping block in less than six months? Is it due to the gentle energy florals bring to the table? Or simply because florals for Spring are not groundbreaking but a fashion staple essential like a white T-shirt.

According to editorials, there are many ways to incorporate florals into your wardrobe to elevate your look and give yourself and onlookers an unconscious release as the reminder of warmer weather is on the horizon. With a more buttoned-up aesthetic becoming a dominating feature across fashion, finding ways to attach personality and femininity has never been more essential. Some individuals across real life and within film find the need for florals boring. One circumstance, in particular, would be with the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada officially in the works; individuals are reminded of the moment in the first film where the editor-in-chief of 'Runway' says, 'Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking.' This statement, heavily coated in sarcasm, is supposed to poke fun at the notion that wearing florals in Springtime is not 'new' or 'original.' The first film, which was released in 2006, has sparked conversations again in 2025 about how and why florals remain a relevant street style.

While runways and magazines are great places to find inspiration in new seasonal staples and trends, social media has also become a hub for niche brands and creators. While scrolling on TikTok, I came across a creator who takes fresh flowers and dips them in resin, creating frozen flowers that can be paired with earrings, necklaces, and more. This is such a fun take on upgrading traditional florals for Spring. Using a real flower as an accessory is bold and innovative and allows femininity to glow within an outfit.

Finding niche brands or creators passionate about fashion is where great design begins. These creators have a different take on traditional fashion staples, and seeing the process in real-time sparks creativity and the ability to look at an aspect in a new light that further promotes the season.

It is essential to note that florals come in different colors and patterns and can be seen across multiple mediums. Utilizing a specific color palette can completely change the aura of your outfit. The best way to incorporate a floral into your outfit is to remind yourself less is more. There is no need to have a whole outfit saturated in florals unless that is your specific goal.

If this is your first time wearing a more feminine style, you can ease into the transition. A great way to add a pop of Spring is in accessories. A scarf featuring printed flowers or ivy designs can be used as your initiation into the style. A reason why accessories are a great starting point is their versatility. You can tie a scarf into an adjustable headband, adding a feminine undertone to your outfit, or wrap it around your bag for an additional accessory and pop of color.

From a statement piece perspective, floral is one of the best ways to achieve an ethereal look. The look is grounded in rebirth and whimsicality. Spring is a time of rejuvenation and life. This alone permits an alluring essence. Oscar de la Renta has cornered the market by creating floral designs that stop people in their tracks. The designs are overwhelmingly feminine and captivate the space boldly yet straightforwardly. His dresses feature a complete submission to the floral design, leaving no room for other patterns while mixing textures that permit the florals to be lifelike. The fashion house is relevant as many influencers, such as Kate Bartlett, have been seen wearing his floral designs at New York Fashion Week and events. Not only do the designs permit beauty, but they are fun. What keeps a trend alive in the fashion world is that individuals love it and find new ways to breathe life into the style.

There is much to learn from how Oscar de la Renta styles this seasonal piece. It is important to note that while the brand is high fashion, individuals can take part in these looks and incorporate them into their style. If boldness works for these dresses, it allows onlookers to find how to use their pastels and florals in their closets in a way that captivates audiences. There is no rulebook for personal style; it is more of a guide to understanding the fundamentals of color, shape, texture, and design.
