Ma Dov’è Liana?

Ok, picture this: you go to a party and meet Liana. A fleeting spark, a sudden crush - you spend the rest of your life searching for her, never finding her again. You dedicate all the paths you take in life to her, to the point of dedicating the most important path of all: music. That’s how a band is born: Dov’è Liana (“Where’s Liana”).

This is the story of a group of French musicians who believe in beauty - the one that will save the world. Deeply intertwined with Italian culture and part of a generation filled with hope, Dov’è Liana has already won over a good portion of electronic music fans and those who love clubs that are too hot in the summer, yet somehow still too hot in the winter.

Shrouded in an air of mystery, complete with scarves and sunglasses, they’ve been making Europe dance from behind the DJ booths of cool yet slightly underground venues. Today, they seem perfectly at ease far from Paris (their home base) and the inspiration they found with their debut track “Perché Piangi Palermo” (“Why Are You Crying, Palermo”) released in 2020. Four years later, they’ve cultivated a devoted, passionate fanbase that follows them on their relentless tours, forging unique and lasting connections.

Their latest album, “Love 679”, has taken them on a global tour. We caught them at Cieloterra in Rome, where we danced to their mix of new rock variations and house-pop, cried to their tender ballads, and moshed -just enough- to their irresistible bangers.

“Dov’è Liana” live at CIELOTERRA in Rome, shot by Giulia De Meo for Raandoom.

The concert began with a reading: an excerpt from “The Art of Joy” by Goliarda Sapienza.

An ethereal narrative intertwined with their music, creating an intimate moment heightened by their choice to remain anonymous - a reflection of their desire to separate “real life” (where individuals exist) from the musical life, where Dov’è Liana is more than a band. It’s a project, music, a fusion of beauty and life experience.

The live show was a true celebration - a wild mood where everyone listened together in near-religious unity. The crowd danced, raising their hands to the sky as if trying to float on the notes, so much so that the concert ran late, astonishing the band, who admitted they were blown away by the warmth of the audience.

“Love 679” is, above all, a universal message of love and celebration. There’s no shame in dreaming of a world built on peace and unity, all grounded in a genuine belief: “We see that values are changing; people our age are more aware, as are the younger generations. We believe nostalgia is dangerous, and ours is the best generation possible”.

So, will we ever find out where Liana is? Probably not - but for now, that’s just fine with us. We’ll keep searching for her alongside them at every party, moving to the rhythm of the four-on-the-floor beat.
