New York City-based fashion and lifestyle brand Kith launched their new apparel collection in partnership with professional ice hockey team the New York Rangers in celebration of the team’s long-standing heritage in New York City. The line features an array of hockey equipment, winter clothing, and lifestyle goods inspired by the Rangers' vintage iconography in collaboration with brands like Bauer, Mitchell & Ness, Inglasco, and AVIREX to bring the collection to life. The groundbreaking launch sets a precedent for future collaborations between luxury brands and winter sports franchises as the countdown to the 2026 Milan Winter Olympic Games begins.
Kith, founded by American footwear and clothing designer Ronnie Fieg in 2011, has established itself as a cultural force in fashion, seamlessly blending luxury and street style while collaborating with high-profile partners to create a twist on the modern streetwear aesthetic. Kith has consistently demonstrated an ability to elevate brands such as Nike and Coca-Cola in past partnerships while maintaining a distinct New York City identity. The brand’s latest collaboration with the Rangers is no exception. The partnership between the two New York icons comes naturally with their shared history in the city and gritty style initiatives.
At the heart of the collection lies the retro-inspired jackets, designed in silhouettes such as Varsity, Bomber, Anorak, and Coaches. The jackets are a symbol of Fieg’s love for New York City, each sporting Kith and New York Rangers embroidered patches and typography over leather sleeves and wool base layers. The Kith & AVIREX for Madison Square Garden Sports Icon Jacket is one of the highlights of the collection, combining New York Rangers artwork and team colors on one half of the jacket while the other is dedicated to the iconic blue and orange of the New York Knicks, New York City’s professional basketball team. The all-leather color-blocked jacket is covered in patchwork featuring iconography like previous team logos and symbols from both teams with Madison Square Garden etched in white leather across the back. The jacket is high in demand—so much so that it’s now sold out.

Another standout is the various crewnecks, cardigans, and sweaters outfitted in the Rangers’ signature red, white, and blue emblazoned with ‘Kith’ embroidered motifs. Stripes reminiscent of vintage Olympic-era American gear are stitched across the hems on some while others bear the Rangers’ 1994 Stanley Cup Championship win. The collection also boasts co-branded Mark Messier hockey jerseys redesigned by Mitchell & Ness with a distinct streetwear edge, blending oversized silhouettes with meticulous luxury craftsmanship. Beyond clothing, Kith designed accessories such as wool beanies, snapbacks, and scarves that complete the winter ready-to-wear ensemble in designs that offer Rangers fans a stylish yet comfortable way to support their team. The line is more than just apparel—it's a cultural statement defining New York’s ever-evolving streetwear style in all facets of New Yorkers’ lives, including professional sport.
The launch event for the collection was a spectacle, held during Kith night at the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, on January 18th as the Rangers faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fieg, who was named creative director of the Knicks in 2022, has held Kith night at the Garden for some of the Knicks’ biggest games to celebrate the brand’s collaboration with the team to design fan apparel. The Rangers’ Kith night commemorated the launch with themed giveaways and personalized t-shirts left on fans' chairs while the Rangers Collection pop-up went live at the Garden’s main entrance for fans to browse for the first time since the release.
While Kith is no stranger to lifestyle branding through partnerships with other prominent industry figures, its foray into winter sportswear is a move that represents a broader shift within the fashion industry. Fashion has been riding high since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with brands becoming increasingly intertwined with professional sports and the athletes that dominate them. The recognition of potential in high-end collaborations that delve into how sports influence fashion and vice versa is growing. The timing of the Kith x NY Rangers drop comes at an opportune time, a year ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, an event that always places winter sports at the forefront of the global athletic stage. As Winter Olympic athletes carve a name for themselves ahead of the Games, this collaboration serves as a precursor of what's to come in winter athleisure.

For the Rangers, the partnership presents an opportunity for the team to engage with a younger, style-conscious fanbase. Like the National Football League (NFL) in the United States, the National Hockey League (NHL) in North America has historically struggled to match the mainstream fashion appeal of the likes of tennis, European football, and basketball. Prominent luxury brands have yet to tap into arguably one of the most popular winter sports given the previous lack of appeal within the fashion market. By aligning with Kith, the Rangers are tapping into previously untapped potential that signals a bridge in the gap between the NHL and fashion houses.
Kith’s approach serves as a model for how fashion labels can break into the winter sports market ahead of the Winter Olympics. Brands have an opportunity to design limited-edition collections that embrace the heritage of winter sports teams, blending their signature craftsmanship with teams' iconic emblems to leverage the potential of sports culture in fashion coming off of successful approaches at the Paris Games last year. Winter sports, with their historically underrepresentation in fashion and current surge in popularity amidst the temperatures, present a vast opportunity for brands to break into new demographics and bring global attention to athletes and their distinctive style. With strategic partnerships and well-thought-out collections, fashion labels can play a significant role in highlighting the identity of winter sportswear like Kith has done with its Rangers collaboration.
