Celebrating Femininity
We need women as creative directors of ready-to-wear because they know how to create feminine and emotional collections.
The debut collection of Chemena Kamali, the new creative director of Chloé, exemplifies this perfectly. Her inaugural series for Fall Winter 2024 is aptly named 'Intuition'. It is inspired by Chloé's archive from the late 1970s, particularly the collections between '77 and '79. Within the collection, there are many references to the work of Karl Lagerfeld, Chloé's creative director at that time. There is also a great homage to two creative directors with whom Chemena Kamali had previously worked at Chloé, namely Phoebe Philo and Claire Waight Keller. The sense of freedom is evident in the extremely soft shapes and volumes, with a strong reference to the Boho Chic style, in vogue between 2008 and 2013. There is no garment that constrains the body; the only tight-fitting clothes are made of knitwear. The softness of the volumes is also found in the bags, future IT BAGS of the season, offered in different sizes. A practical wardrobe is presented, but at the same time, it does not want to compromise on style, with oversized shirts and dresses with ruffles made of lace and chiffon, capes and patent coats, alongside furs, but also leather pants and jackets. Fringes are also a must-have detail, both on garments and shoes, which as seen in other fashion shows will be highly trendy.
This is an extremely feminine collection because it manages to create a very natural dialogue with the body. The body is sometimes covered, sometimes uncovered, but always without excesses and without constraints. It is a collection that fully expresses the identity of Chloé, representing a woman who is free, independent but at the same time feminine, sunny, and playful. Women are at the center of the clothes, which caress the bodies and merge with them, creating symbiosis and harmony. In anticipation of International Women's Day, I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the female world. Best wishes to all women.
