What’s New in Music- January 2025

December was somewhat quiet in the rock world this year as we all wound down for the holiday season, but that does not mean that there’s been no news to report!

What’s new in music?

South Arcade has finally gifted us with their debut EP 2005 along with the release of its title track. The upstart quartet has been releasing each track from the 5 song project since January and at least in this household has been widely anticipated. South Arcade also announced they are supporting BilMuri in his UK and Europe tour just after their own North vs South Arcade run (and just before their debut at Slam Dunk, and their US support with Magnolia Park…), meaning that 2025 is gearing up to be a massive year for them - this is your last chance to get onto them before they’re cool!

Another wnir alumni Bloodywood has teamed up with darlings of metal BABYMETAL to release Bekhauf (Fearless) on December 6th. This track has all the features of a BABYMETAL collaboration, combining their electrometal sound and silky smooth vocals with the Bloodywood rap and heavy vocal mix to create a ballad fit for anyone’s motivational playlist. This release has come with a beautifully animated music video, featuring each band’s main members battling it out with a string of magical beasts, calling upon the last airbender style to hit the nostalgia factor to accompany its stunning visuals. Hopefully this string of singles will turn into an album run, ready for their touring to start (more on that later).

What’s new on stage?

As mentioned, Bloodywood announced a massive leg of their ‘Return of the Singh’ tour covering Japan and (finally) the UK and EU. On a tour that has 26 dates and covers 12 countries, they start in Copenhagen on February 21st, and finish in Osaka on May 6th. The only thing we need is to find out who they’ll bring with them! The link to all tickets for the ‘Return of the Singh’ is here if you want to find out more.

In the festival circuit, Bloodstock announced their next wave of bands for their Sophie Lancaster stage on December 10th. Three of the fourteen bands announced includes grime-metal outfit Pengshui, Gnomecore realness from the Belgian trio Gnome, and Cleveland-based gloom metal from Frayle. This year’s Bloodstock has already sold out for weekend tickets but there are a few day tickets left, which you can find here.
What’s new in the culture?

The end of 2024 was quiet in the rock world with everyone winding down for the festive season. Hayley Williams made some noise about taking her solo album out to some live shows on her Instagram on December 27th, musing about what being 36 will bring her and mentioning wanting to do ‘some shows she should’ve done 5 years ago’ in reference to the solo music she released in the pandemic years.
On the 29th Melisa Marie of Millionaires released the first teaser for a MySpace documentary that she is featured in. No name or release date for the project has been announced yet, but we are reassured that it is ‘coming soon’, with Co-Founder of the site Tom Anderson on the production team making us hope that this is a labour of love.
