Trend Forecast 2025

The Spring/Summer 2025 Fashion Week season was a memorable one. The energy it brought felt joyous and airy but also very powerful in a soft way that weaved a feminist thread through most of the shows. The idea of soft power was the main message of the season, and the designers brought forth the idea that women do not have to give up their gentleness and femininity to feel powerful and be seen as such.

We could also see that the designers aimed to transport us to another world, something as weightless and airy as Cloud Nine. The ethereal elements of air and a floating feeling were incorporated into many collections, with chiffon, balloon skirts, and cloud-like dresses being just a few of the designs that seemed to defy gravity. There was a definite preference for vibrant colors, interesting shapes, and florals, and the shows felt very playful, which can also be clearly seen in the trends that emerged from them. Here are some of the trends to look out for in the first half of 2025:

  1. A new take on boho
The saying “What goes around comes around” has always been true for fashion as well. With Generation Z already bringing back a lot of Y2K trends, boho seems to be next on the list. A new take on boho chic that speaks of romance, softness, and the weightless aesthetic present throughout the fashion season is bound to become the new trendy way of incorporating nostalgia for the past fashion decades into our everyday life.

  2. Maximalism and camp
After seasons of quiet luxury, maximalist fashion is predicted to be making a comeback. Fashion is an important means of expression and always moves with the times, and this year is no different. We’re living through a time of political uncertainty and frequent anxiety, and this makes us want to rebel against norms forced upon us. We can expect camp style in full swing along with bold colors, interesting patterns and pattern clashes, and unexpected designs paired together, which are perfect for subverting expectations and expressing ourselves to the maximum.

  3. Skirts over pants
Combining skirts with pants has been a trend on the rise even last year, and in 2025 it’s expected to become even bigger. It can have many different styles and combinations, from midi or maxi skirts over jeans and different kinds of pants to them being made into one piece of clothing, which some brands have already started doing. This will probably completely change the way you think about your wardrobe and maybe make you bring out your summer skirt pile even in winter.

  4. Tulle wraps
Continuing with an illusion of weightlessness and airy fabrics, this fashion season has been making use of sheer and mesh fabrics that sometimes go over an outfit, and sometimes form a daring outfit just by themselves. So-called “naked dressing” and sheer fabrics have been showing up more and more in the past few seasons, especially during spring/summer when the weather allows it more, and they provide a playful yet feasible way to incorporate mesh into everyday style.

  5. High fashion athleisure
Numerous global sporting events in the past couple of years, as well as people spending almost the entire pandemic at home in sweatpants, have inspired a new era of fashion. If you thought that high fashion and athleisure could not mix, the SS25 Fashion Week has definitely proven you wrong. From everyday wear to surprisingly elegant designs involving elements of sports style, it’s time to embrace comfort, but not at the price of looking fashionable.

  6. Plaid
Commonly thought of as a rather autumnal or wintery fabric, plaid is predicted to make a surprisingly significant appearance this season, proving once again that certain patterns can show surprising seasonal versatility. Expect to see a range of plaid-inspired styles on different items of clothing, such as shirts, skirts, and even pants.

  7. Masculine archetypes
As much as this season has been about the power of softness, masculine clothing on women has never been trendier. Dressing up in suits gives a powerful impression of control, and many women enjoy projecting this energy with their outfits. Different plays on traditionally masculine clothing have the potential to create a powerful fusion of androgynous styles that will rule the fashion scene.

  8. Red for spring
This season’s signature color is as bold and vibrant as the rest of its trends, making it hard to look away from and even harder to resist. Various shades of red have made a strong impression in many different spring collections, and this perfectly accompanies the want for bolder colors and maximalism.

  9. Pleated skirts
Pleated skirts came in many forms and lengths during Fashion Week, from schoolgirl-like designs to leader midi skirts and pleated skirts over pants. With many different styles and numerous ways to incorporate them into your outfits, pleated skirts are definitely on their way to becoming the season staple.
