Milanese Mélange

While Milan is known as one of the fashion capitals, the influence this city’s spirit has on international fashion markets, trends, and industry standards is still unmatched. Beyond the glitz and glamour, Milan is a beautiful mixture of people wearing designer brands to fast fashion and everything in between. Especially when it comes to different neighborhoods in Milan, one can observe a diverse change. The ever-changing fashion makes this city an inspiration to outsiders and a boon to upcoming designers to be an Italian fashion Mecca. As Milan is home to a wide range of iconic luxury brands like Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, it also caters to young new designers with a ray of hope in mind. To dissect the cosmopolitan nature of fashion in Milan, I visited some of the integral areas of the city to understand the aesthetics of people and their take on fashion.

  1. Piazza Del Duomo
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a home to all the luxury stores in the heart of Milan, is flooded by fashion enthusiasts, influencers, and people from all around the world. Milan is known for its rich culture, architecture, and fashion legacy. Since this tourist attraction is always filled with people coming from around the world, a lot of cultural clothing can be seen.

  2. Luxe Streets of Brera
While considering the tourists and their appreciation for fashion, let’s not forget about the local Italians who bring out the best of Milanese fashion. As far as I have observed, "Italians always dress well, have a coffee and cigarette in their hands, and are amicably loud in public with their prominent hand gestures." With long coats, shawls wrapped around their necks, and a bit of luxury always popping out, one can easily spot real-life Pinterest outfit inspiration on the streets of Brera.

  3. Giovani ai Navigli
Almost 90% of people in Milan are always dressed classy; they have a charm, and their outfit always speaks for themselves. However, the youngsters at Navigli have their own style, and one can easily spot lots of denims, cargos, and punk outfit styling at Navigli Grande. From thrifted fits to DIY accessories, everyone is a fan of their own style.

  4. Muses of Montenapoleone
With a pretty similar vibe to Brera, yet with a hint of modern classiness, Montenapoleone and areas of San Babila never fail to inspire tourists with their fashion game. With at least 20 different Porsches spotted in an hour, to getting a glimpse of a rare Himalayan Birkin on an affluent Italian nonna, Montenapoleone is straight out of a movie.

  5. Centro Direzionale di Milano
Serving as a corporate hub of Milan, Centro Direzionale di Milano is situated between Milano Centrale and Porta Garibaldi, two of the main spots in Milan. If you’re looking for fitted Loro Piana blazers, custom Cucinelli, Schiaparelli coats, and the iconic Manolas, take a 20-minute stroll from Garibaldi to Centrale for the perfect quiet luxury look.
