Food and Its Completely Different But Also Still Food

How much of what we listen to is made from scratch? A somewhat deep dive into the niche, most deliciously genius side of the internet.

There are certain things in everyone’s life that represent constants, unshakable parts of who we are when we're surrounded by those who understand us best. In my case, it is the brain-rot language I share with my friends, a meticulously crafted set of nonsensical phrases and sounds, plucked out of context and sprinkled into our daily conversations. We all know that no trip to the loo can happen without the obligatory "go piss girl" (Note: "girl," in this context, sheds its traditional gender connotation - go crazy with it).

Nara Smith is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable multidisciplinary artists of our generation. Balancing a modeling career, motherhood, marriage, and an entire TikTok page dedicated to cooking - often while holding her babies - is truly impressive.

However, she’s not the only one making waves on our screens. Another creative force is Iain Ross, known as thug.loaf, a hip-hop enthusiast from Belfast and a culinary genius on camera. Ross began stenciling the covers of his favorite albums on loaves of bread, even giving his creations clever names, like "Radiobread," a series inspired by Radiohead's albums.

thug.loaf's creations became increasingly elaborate, and with them, his TikTok following began to rise like dough (pun intended, sorry). His bread loaves started taking on various shapes and forms, with each piece becoming more intricate and entertaining to watch.

We’ve now learned that it's possible to cook "Tame Empanada(s)".

...that when in a hurry, we can always rely on the classic "Bohemian Wrapsody."

...and that sometimes all it takes to kick off a great night is a boogie and some BRATwurst.

I could go on and on - there’s something about these clever names and incredible recipes that keeps me hooked. In a world where food and creativity collide, innovators like thug.loaf and Nara Smith are redefining how we experience both. Through their inventive flair and playful approach, they remind us that cooking can be as much about expression as it is about nourishment. Whether it's bread shaped like album covers or a recipe filmed while multitasking motherhood, they’ve turned simple, everyday moments into something extraordinary - leaving us eagerly waiting for what they’ll cook up next. After all, as Charli once said, everything is romantic.
